ALAPPUZHA: Tourism development will pave way for the development of economy, society and environment, KTDC chairman Cherian Philip has said. Inaugurating a seminar on ``Responsible and Sustainable Tourism'' organised by the Institute of Management in Kerala, in association with District Tourism Promotion Council here on Tuesday, Mr. Philip said tourism should be a cultural communication rather than business activity. Mr. Philip said elimination of waste was a major concern regarding tourism industry and development of tourism could not be sustained without addressing the concern. KTDC Managing Director K.G. Mohan Lal, who delivered the keynote address, said tourism industry should go beyond its areas of business interest. The United Nations World Tourism Organisation set the goal at eliminating poverty through development of tourism industry.
