News Analysis
In the Imran Khan column "Pakistan victim of defensive mindset" ("Sport", October 30, 2006), it was stated that Pakistan had New Zealand at 30 for 3. A reader points out that it is incorrect. The Sports Desk clarifies that the Kiwis were actually 23 for 2 and lost their third wicket only at the score of 60. In "Brit wit on a bus" (Sunday Magazine, October 29, 2006, page 8) the sentence was: "Or if I went past Trafalgar Square under Napoleon's majestic gaze and onto Charing Cross, I'd find myself near Covent Garden, where young Eliza Doolittle had sold flowers with her brazen accent." A reader asks, "Two hundred years after the Battle of Trafalgar, has the French Emperor Napoleon pushed the British Admiral Nelson off his Column? Or has the Emperor been given a Column of his own?" It was an error. Trafalgar Square is a square in central London that commemorates the Battle of Trafalgar (1805), a British naval victory of the Napoleonic Wars! The statue is that of Lord Nelson, the admiral who commanded the British Fleet at Trafalgar. It is the policy of The Hindu to correct significant errors as soon as possible.
