Kulye rides his luck to hit century

MUMBAI: Swapnil Kulye rode on his two let-offs to rattle up 114 off 106 balls (11 fours, four sixes) and single-handedly lift Khandu Rangnekar XI from 98 for four to 199 in the first innings of the third and last-round match against Vijay Manjrekar XI in the Sportstar Trophy under-19 MCA cricket selection tournament on Tuesday.

Vijay Manjrekar XI's left-arm medium-pacer Vivek Arothe was the bowler to suffer both times as the middle-order batsman was dropped first by Rehmani Sufiyan in the slips.Rangnekar XI hit back by sending back the top four Manjrekar XI batsmen for 59 at stumps on the opening day of this three-day match.

The scores: At Elf Vengsarkar Oval: Vijay Merchant XI 263 (Swapnil Salvi 44, Nikhil Mandle 43, Jeff Pereira 58, Viral Patel three for 65) vs. Dattu Phadkar XI 13 for one in seven overs.

At Karnataka ground: Khandu Rangnekar XI 199 (Swapnil Kulye 114; Vivek Arothe three for 32, Rakesh Naik three for 21) vs. Vijay Manjrekar XI 59 for four in 26 overs.
