MALAPPURAM: The district-level inauguration of the golden jubilee celebrations of the State's formation will be held here on Wednesday. A cultural procession to be taken out from MSP High School grounds in the afternoon will mark the beginning of the festivities, which will last for 50 days. Elaborate arrangements have been made to add colour to the cultural rally, in which 1,000 selected students, 500 NCC and members of the scouts and guides, teachers, Government employees, bank employees, Kudumbasree workers, Mahila Pradhan agents, literacy workers, traders, and arts and sports club members will participate. The procession will be divided into groups comprising 50 members each. It will conclude at the Municipal Town Hall after passes through the town. Eminent personalities from different walks of life will take part in a proclamation meeting to be held after the procession. Chelakkodan Aysha and Rabiya, the pride of Malappuram in the State's literacy campaign, will be honoured at the function. Various art forms such as Oppana, Kolkali, Thiruvathirakali, Margamkali, Adivasi dance, Daffmuttu, mimicry and mono-act will be presented. The festivities will be organised jointly by the district panchayat, block panchayat, municipality and the district administration.
