Thiruvananthapuram: The Kerala Congress (Jacob) leader T.M. Jacob has opposed the move to import rubber under the advance and ad hoc licence scheme. In a statement here on Monday, Mr. Jacob said steps were on to import 30,000 tonnes of rubber under the advance licence and 40,000 tonnes under the ad hoc licence schemes. The imports would lead to crash in rubber prices, affecting rubber growers Kerala adversely. He alleged that the North India based tyre lobby was behind the move. He wanted the State Government to put pressure on the Centre. Mr. Jacob said the move for fresh imports was initiated taking advantage of the loopholes in the existing norms. The imports were being resorted to for arresting the hike in prices of domestic rubber.
