Bidar
Staff Correspondent
Bidar: Former Minister Gurupadappa Nagamarapalli has urged the State Government to take immediate steps to repair and re-lay the roads in the district. Roads were so bad that they were affecting the district's economy, he said. Farmers found it difficult take their produce to markets and sugar factories. Many lorries transporting sugarcane to factories had been damaged. Many people who use two-wheelers and other vehicles had met with accidents. The State Government should take note of this, Mr. Nagamarapalli said at a press conference. He felt that the Government had no control over contractors who he alleged, had formed cartels. Congress leader and Bidar Sahakari Sakkare Karkhane president Ishwar Khandre said Bidar-Kamalnagar-Nanded Road had not been repaired for the last 10 years. The contractor who had agreed to take up the work had written to the Government that he would not take it up as it was unprofitable. However, the Government did not change the contractor and call a fresh tender, he said.
