Man held on charge of wife's murder

Staff Correspondent

Bidar: The Bhalki police have arrested a man on the charge of murdering his wife, ten months ago.

Additional Superintendent of Police M.M. Daula told presspersons in Bidar on Tuesday that Khandu Chandar Rao (22), who ran a grocery shop in Munganal in Aurad taluk, had complained to Dhannura police station on December 18, 2005, that his wife had been kidnapped.

In his complaint, he had said that he and his wife Anita had gone to the Mailar Mallanna temple in Khanapur village in Bhalki taluk that day. Then unidentified miscreants had dragged her into the nearby jungles, he had claimed.

Later, the police found Anita's body with nearly 20 stab wounds. Anita's parents filed a complaint with the Bidar police accusing Khandu of murdering her using hired assassins. The Bidar police formed special teams. They questioned Khandu and he confessed to the murder.

The accused told presspersons that he was envious of his wife's beauty. She allegedly made fun of his appearance and that enraged him, he said.
