VIJAYAWADA: Liberation of Dalits must come from within, as nobody outside the community will espouse their cause, says Babu Gogineni, representative of International Humanist and Ethical Union (IHEU). Addressing participants of the ongoing international conference on critical thinking, organised by International Humanist and Ethical Youth Organisation (IHEYO) and hosted by the Atheist Centre, Vijayawada, Mr. Gogineni said situation across the country was grim and called for an active role of humanists to address the scores of crucial issues that were directly related to development of mankind. Indignity was a curse to the oppressor and not the oppressed, said Mr. Gogineni, underlining the need for new renaissance through social transformation that could pave way for harmonious existence of values like liberty, equality and fraternity. "The term humanism is complete in itself. It does not need any adjectives. Humanists can be emotional but never irrational," he said, urging the young participants to try and understand the difference between `religion' and `spiritualism'. Replying to a query on division among the Dalit community, he lamented that even after independence, Indians were still in search of freedom they desired in "this country of darkness." Over 50 young delegates from nine different countries are attending the conference.
