VIJAYAWADA : Chief general manager of Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited's AP Circle R.K. Arnold on Tuesday said in the past six years, the BSNL had done exceedingly well despite increasing competition from the private players. He pointed out that mobile connections of the BSNL had risen to 15 lakh in the State and the figure would touch 18 lakh by March next year. Speaking after giving away Bharat Sanchar Sarathi and Sanchar Seva Padak awards at a function here, Mr. Arnold said the collective endeavour of one and all had helped in improving the BSNL's profile and its capacity to meet any competition. Though big private companies were plunging into the market, the BSNL was way ahead on the strength of its long years of service and experience in the field. Mr. Arnold said the growth of the BSNL was so spectacular that it gave Rs. 1,100 crores to the Government of India. Its revenue in the AP Telecom Circle was Rs 3,000 crores during 2005-`06.
Good service
Mr. Arnold said the Wireless in Local Loop (WLL) phone connections would be introduced widely so as to cover all villages in the State by 2008. General manager of Krishna district P. Balagandadhara Rao said the awards were being given to recognise good service rendered by officials and staff who had made contributions in their way to the growth of the BSNL. The CGM gave away the awards. The recipients of Bharat Sanchar Sarathi awards included J. Venkateswara Rao, K. Venugopal, Md. J. Basha and B.V. Prasada Rao. Those, who received the awards, were A.A.S. Vara Prasad, G. Vaddikasula and N. Radhakrishna Murthy. General manager (operations) M. John Chrisostom, DGM (planning and administration) A. Hanumantha Rao, other officers and staff were present. Exclusively in Krishna Secondary Switching Area, best exchange award scheme was introduced in recognition of excellent maintenance of outdoor plant, indoor plant, records and general upkeep of the exchange. The selected best exchanges were Lankapally, Kotapadu, Nunna, Kanchikacherla, Machilipatnam and Kaikalur.
