All set for Rajyotsava celebrations

Staff Correspondent

Belgaum: The district administration has made elaborate arrangements to celebrate Rajyotsava Day on the golden jubilee of formation of the State here on Wednesday.

According to official sources, Minister for Horticulture and district in-charge would unfurl the national flag and perform pooja to "Bhuveneshwari Devi" on the Deputy Commissioner's Office premises in the city at 9 a.m. He would also flag off a procession of cultural troupes and tableaux symbolising local traditions and customs, and developmental programmes initiated by the Government.

Programmes organised by Kannada and Culture department would be held at Kumar Gandharva Ranga Mandir at 6 p.m. In view of the violence witnessed during Maharshtra Ekikaran Samithi Yuva Melava in Khanapur and subsequently in Belgaum last week and the observance of "Black Day" by Maharahstra Ekikarana Samithi on Wednesday, the police have stepped up security.
