KADAPA: Telugu Desam Party councillors staged a walk out from the general body meeting of Proddatur municipal council on Tuesday alleging that officials were neglecting them in improving public amenities in their wards. TDP councillor Jayalinga Reddy walked out accusing Commissioner P.V.S.N. Murthy and the DE of ignoring his written representation to repair a damaged drain in his ward.
Mosquito menace
Mosquito menace was rampant due to stagnation of water in Madur and Kothapalle channels, he said. Another TDP member N. Gurrappa alleged that works proposed by him four months ago were yet to be executed. Officials were reluctant to lay a pipeline in Kopparapu street, despite Municipal Chairperson E. Malleswari's promise to sanction works worth Rs. 1 lakh in each ward, he alleged.
Official inaction alleged
Alleging neglect of TDP councillors, Subba Rao and Gummatamaiah alleged official inaction on their representations. Desilting of drains was needed to check mosquito menace, M. Uma said. The commissioner explained that Rs. 15,000 was being spent daily to eradicate mosquito menace in Proddatur town.
