NEW DELHI: The prosecution in the Jessica Lal murder case on Tuesday ended its argument on the appeal against the acquittal of the prime accused, Siddharth Vashishtha alias Manu Sharma, and eight others by a Delhi court in February this year. Wrapping up the submission, Additional Solicitor-General (ASG) Gopal Subramaniam said the prosecution had brought enough evidence on record to prove the guilt of the prime accused and his co-accused. He submitted that the prosecution had been able to prove the presence of Manu Sharma at the Tamarind Court restaurant on the day of the incident and the trial court had also accepted this. He stated that it was also proved in the trial court, on the basis of evidence by the prosecution witnesses, that Manu Sharma had brought along a weapon to the party. He also referred to a telephonic conversation recorded by the Delhi police between Ashok Dutt, a friend of Ravinder Sudan, wherein the latter said in reply to a query by the former that he had handed over the weapon of Manu Sharma to "Shyamji" but the trial court had rejected it saying it was not clear from the talk as to whom Sudan had handed over the weapon. According to the prosecution, "Shyamji" referred to by Sudan was none other than Shyam Sunder Sharma, uncle of Manu Sharma and one of the accused in the case. Mr. Subramaniam accused Shyan Munshi, a key witness in the case, of lying before the trial court that he did not know Hindi. The ASG further said that he had also identified the photograph of Manu Sharma but refused to recognise him (Manu) at the time of his (Shyan's) evidence.
