Meditation for holistic health

NEW DELHI: Mumbai-based psychotherapist and holistic health counsellor Girish Patel conducted a lecture-cum-meditation session on "Swasthya Aapki Muthi Mein" at Nehru Stadium grounds here on Tuesday evening. He emphasised the need to adopt a positive attitude, healthy habits, regular exercise, proper sleep, fibre-rich vegetarian diet, spiritual wisdom and Rajyoga meditation for holistic health and long life.

Organised by Prajapita Brahma Kumaris Ishwariya Vishwa Vidyalaya, the session was part of an ongoing 10-day "World Peace Festival".

Blood donation drive

NEW DELHI: Union Defence Minister A. K. Antony inaugurated a special blood donation drive organised by the National Cadet Corps at the NCC Republic Day Parade Ground here on Tuesday.

Under this drive, 15,000 cadets both boys and girls, besides NCC officers from across the country will donate blood for the patients of dengue, thalessaemia and blood cancer.

Phone number change

NEW DELHI: Delhi Jal Board, which had provided call centre facility to its consumers for lodging complaints relating to water supply and sewerage services through help line number 1901-180-1916, on Tuesday announced that the number has changed to 1860-180-1916.

Explaining that the universal access code number 1901 had now been changed by BSNL to 1860, the DJB advised consumers to register their complaints on the new number 1860-180-1916. The old number, it said, would also remain operative up to December 31 this year.

Birth anniversary

NEW DELHI: Delhi Mayor Farhad Suri on Tuesday garlanded a statue of Acharya Narendra Dev, founder of Social Welfare Revolution of India, on Ring Road here on the occasion of his 117th birth anniversary. Mr. Suri described Acharya Narendra Dev as a great son of Mother India, who dedicated his whole life for the welfare of downtrodden sections.

Trans-fats can cause heart attacks

NEW DELHI: Heart Care Foundation of India president K.K. Aggarwal on Tuesday said trans-fats could raise the level of cholesterol in the blood and cause heart attacks.

Describing trans-fats as partially hydrogenated vegetable oils that turn oily food into semi-solid foods, Dr. Aggarwal said: "Trans-fats are used in the food market to extend the shelf life of pastries, cakes, margarine and some fast foods. They increase the damaging cholesterol content of the meals, clogging the arteries and increasing the risk of heart attack."
