Jaware Gowda to go on fast

Staff Correspondent

MYSORE: Writer and former Vice-Chancellor of University of Mysore D. Jaware Gowda will go on a fast on Wednesday seeking classical language status for Kannada.

He will be sitting on a symbolic fast on the Kuvempu Trust premises in Vijayanagar in an effort to urge the Union Government to hasten the process of declaring Kannada a classical language. He will fast between 6 a.m. and 6 p.m.

Several organisations have lent their support to the writer.

The symbolic fast seeking classical language is being observed on November 1 to coincide with the Kannada Rajyotsava celebrations.
