MYSORE: Hundreds of anganwadi workers from centres across Mysore district took out a massive rally on Tuesday to press for the implementation of long-pending demands including payment of pension to workers on superannuation.

The workers, who gathered at Town Hall, took out a procession through K.R. Circle and D. Devaraj Urs Road before reaching the Mysore Zilla Panchayat offices. Later, they submitted a memorandum to Chief Executive Officer of the Mysore Zilla Panchayat Chennappa Gowda to be forwarded to Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy.

Hundreds of anganwadi workers, who are employed at the estimated one lakh anganwadi centres across Karnataka, have been complaining against social and economic exploitation by the Government. "We are being exploited and the Government has not come to our aid," the memorandum said.

The workers, who had taken out a rally in Mysore on Tuesday under the aegis of the Karnataka State Anganwadi Workers and Assistants Federations' Mysore district unit, urged the Government to provide pension or Rs 1.5 lakh as compensation to aged anganwadi workers and assistants on retirement. The demand for pension was among the eleven-point memorandum submitted by the anganwadi workers.

The protestors urged the Government to cancel the selection committee for anganwadi workers headed by legislators according to the direction of the High Court. The workers said they should be entitled to 30 days medical leave and appropriate monetary relief.
