On course for a humble goal

Appala Naidu, scoring 97 out of 100 marks, stands second in State in the SGT test

  • He scored a mere 0.5 per cent less than the first ranker
  • His parents are farm labourers in Srikakulam district

    V. Appala Naidu

VISAKHAPATNAM : In a world increasingly obsessed with mega success and fat pay cheques, V. Appala Naidu may not appear to be an attention-grabber. But he measures admirably well up to the task he has set for himself. If he perseveres, it may be the beginning of a journey to achieve more. For his toiling parents, assurance of a Government job for their son brings loads of happiness for now.

Appala Naidu, scoring 97 out of 100 marks in the District Selection Committee examination for recruitment of teachers, stood second in the secondary grade teacher (SGT) test in the State, according to the V. Narayana Reddy, director of Aditya Institutes, where he took short-term coaching for a month. He scored a mere 0.5 per cent less than the first ranker.

    Different direction

Right from the beginning, he had his eyes on the humble goal - that of becoming a teacher.

Though he studied Intermediate with MPC group and scored 90.6 per cent, he did not go for engineering studies. Instead, he wrote the Diploma in Education and joined the District Institute of Educational Training at Omaravalli in Srikakulam district.

After completing it in 2005, he worked as a teacher in a private school. After the DSC schedule was announced, he took coaching at Aditya College of Competitive Examinations here.

    Expenses involved

"I didn't go for engineering because it involves a lot of expenditure," says Appala Naidu who belongs to Backward Classes category.

His parents Chandrinaidu and Reyyamma are farm labourers at Devudala in R. Amadalavalasa mandal of Srikakulam district. His father shares 40 cents of land with his uncle
