VISAKHAPATNAM : The CPI (M) has alleged that a number of irregularities are taking place in the acquisition of land for the Naval Alternative Operation Base (NAOB) in Rambilli mandal of Elamanchili Assembly constituency and demanded a judicial inquiry into the process. Party's State secretariat member Y. Venkateswara Rao and district secretary Ch. Narasinga Rao, who on Monday toured Rambilli, Kothapatnam, Voda Narsapuram and Rajala Agraharam (Koppugundupalem) where the land was being acquired, at a press conference here on Tuesday demanded that the Government give the right amount of compensation and take up adequate rehabilitation programme for the farmers, fishermen and others who are losing their lands and livelihood due to acquisition of land. "The Elamanchili MLA is calling the shots in the whole process of land acquisition and resorting to irregularities. Officials are accepting the names of displaced persons only if the MLA recommends them. One glaring incident of malpractice is creation of 300 bogus passbooks and pattas at the behest of the MLA in Sabbavaram mandal on the lands being cultivated by farmers for generations, said the CPI (M) leaders. The party demanded that the Government to follow GO No. 1307 issued in 1993 which stipulated that the every farmer, whether cultivating a banjar or jeerayitee land or owner of the land must be compensated equally.
