Mayor, MCH Commissioner call it truce

Staff Reporter

HYDERABAD: Mayor Teegala Krishna Reddy and MCH Commissioner Sanjay Jaju have decided to bury the hatchet on G.O. M.S. 491 issued for clearing six sports complexes on Tuesday.

It was decided to write to the Government to keep the order in abeyance till the Laxminagar Sports Complex in Saidabad is approved and ratified by the standing committee and later, the council.

Mr. Reddy said that henceforth all resolutions passed by the general body meeting will be approved and ratified with signatures by floor leaders of all political parties.

He was always for approving developmental projects cutting across political affiliations and as such resolutions were being approved by a voice vote.

But, from now on all resolutions will be read aloud for approval and ratification during the same meeting, he told presspersons.

Talks held

Mr. Jaju, who held talks with Mr. Reddy prior to the press meet, maintained that there was no lapse on his part as he was only sticking to the HMC Act and respecting the "majority opinion".

As per the Act, the council cannot clear a project unless approved by the standing committee.

"Since Laxminagar Sports Complex project was not cleared through the standing committee, the legal position was that council approval was not valid. Therefore, there was no question of referring to GOMS 491 as it was also based on the council resolution under dispute," he said.

The Commissioner stressed it was an isolated issue and was sure it would not set any precedent of members questioning decisions taken in the past.

Rift denied

He also denied of any rift between him and the Mayor.

However, it was not clear if five other sports complexes approved and ratified by both the standing committee and the council and issued in the said GO would also be stalled.
