Hyderabad: There is discontent among the 2,000-odd families who are rendered homeless with the demolition of 300 houses in the Industrial Labour Colony (ILC) at Azamabad by the APSRTC four months ago. Retired RTC employees and ex-servicemen, including those who fought the World War II, are badly affected. The affected also include those who served in the Nizam State Railway and Road Transport Department. M.P. Narender, working president of the colony, in a statement termed the demolition illegal as the colony was established under the Government of India subsidised housing scheme on 30 years lease-rental-cum-ownership basis in 1953 in survey No 179 over 18 acres. The housing policy was framed when Pandit Nehru was the Prime Minister and the houses were built with Central funds by the City Improvement Board.
`Facts suppressed'
"The RTC does not possess any land transfer registration title deed to prove its ownership as it could not get Amendment Act Approval of Parliament," Mr. Narender said. He said during the same period about 2,900 houses were built under the same housing policy by Allwyn Nissan, HMT, Praga Tools, VST at Sanathnagar, Ramangar, Seethapahal Mandi, Zamisthanpur. As per the lease-cum-sale agreement, after completion of 30 years, the sale deed proceedings were executed during 1983-84 to the occupants. But this was not done in the case of the ILC Azamabad. "The RTC suppressed the subsidised scheme details and manipulated things to grab the land," Mr. Narender alleged.
Plea to YSR
Former MP and ex chairperson, RTC, V.B. Raju, recommended the ILC case in 1968 for outright sale to the occupants. In 1972, former Chief Minister T. Anjaiah also did the same thing. But these facts were suppressed by the Corporation officials. Mr. Narender urged Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, to do justice to the old occupants by taking steps for restoration of the land.
