First case booked under domestic violence Act

HYDERABAD: A criminal case invoking the Protection of Women from Domestic Violence Act, 2005, was registered by the Chaderghat police for the first time in the State capital here on Tuesday. A housewife Lakshmi Ramadevi, 26, committed suicide by hanging on Monday allegedly due to the harassment by her in-laws. Section 31 of the Special Act was applied against Ramadevi's in-laws following a complaint by her mother, Hemavathi, that the victim was subjected to violence by the in-laws.

Chaderghat Sub Inspector N. Rama Rao said Naresh Babu, his brother and parents were arrested. In addition to the Special Act, Section 304 B and 498 A of the IPC were also invoked in the case.
