NEDUMBASSERY: The Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) at the Cochin International Airport held a full scale mock drill on Tuesday to assess the alertness of the force in the event of a bomb threat and to analyse whether the response was in line with the bomb threat contingency plan of the airport company. The simulated exercise saw the CISF successfully foiling the attempt of a three-member militant group to attack the airport by detonating Improvised Explosive Devices. The exercise got off to a start with the CISF control room receiving a message that three militants have infiltrated the domestic terminal. The informant further states that an explosive-laden jeep had been parked just outside the arrival side of the domestic terminal, which would be detonated in an hour. Following this, the duty officer at the control room immediately alerts the Quick Reaction Team (QRT), Commandant, Assistant Commandant and other officials. The arrival side of the domestic terminal is cordoned off and in the ensuing search operation launched by the QRT in bullet-proof vests, the terrorists are detected and neutralised. Meanwhile, the members of the Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad (BDDS) wearing bomb suits diffuse the dummy IEDs planted in the vehicle using ultra modern equipment.
