Traffic regulations in city

In view of arrangements for Prime Minister's visit


  • No traffic will be allowed on the route used by his convoy
  • Those arriving for the public functions will be thoroughly screened

    Thiruvananthapuram: The police have put in place certain traffic restrictions in view of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh's visit to the capital city on Wednesday.

    A press release issued by the police said traffic would be restricted along the Sasthamangalam- Vellayambalam -Kowdiar- Museum Junction-Palayam- Statue -General Hospital- Pattoor- Pettah -Chakka- All Saints-Airport stretch.

    No traffic would be allowed on the Chakka-All Saints-Airport road when the Prime Minister attends the foundation stone laying ceremony for the new International terminal and the proposed aircraft maintenance base at Shanghumughom. During the period, airport bound traffic would be diverted through the Muttathara- Vallakadavu- Valiathura route.

    Parking

    One side of the Vettuacaud- Kannanthura road has been designated as the parking area for vehicles of those attending the function. Both sides of the road from the Indian Coffee House at Shanghumughom to the airport terminal could be used for parking.

    Those attending the Prime Minister's programme at Indira Bhavan should park their vehicles on one side of the Panicker's Lane- Sasthamangalam junction and Kochar roads.

    The Senate Hall, University College campus, one side of the Asan Square-Kunnukuzhy road, Legislative Assembly- Vikas Bhavan road and Press Club road have been earmarked as parking areas of vehicles of those attending the Prime Minister's function at the Central Stadium.

    Security arrangements

    Only those with passes issued by the police would be allowed into the technical area of the Airport and premises of the Raj Bhavan during the visit of the Prime Minister on Wednesday.

    Members of the public attending the Prime Minister's public functions should be seated at least one hour before the arrival of the VIP. Those attending the meeting would be allowed to leave the venue only 15 minutes after the Prime Minister's convoy leaves the area.

    Those arriving for the public functions would be thoroughly screened.

    The police have requested the public not to carry bags, parcels or packets to the venue. Vehicles should be parked only in designated areas.

    No parking would be allowed along the Prime Minister's route. No traffic would be allowed on the route used by his convoy.

    No private vehicles would be allowed to tail or move in front of the VIP convoy, a press release issued by the City Police Commissioner, said here on Wednesday.
