`Do away with categories'

Staff Reporter

Subhash Chopra demands treating all professionals at par

NEW DELHI: Senior Congress MLA and former Delhi Assembly Speaker Subhash Chopra on Tuesday demanded that all categories of professionals be treated at par while permitting use of basements or activity in the Capital's residential areas.

He also sought doing away with the categorisation of colonies for the purpose of mixed land and commercial use.

Mr. Chopra said the decision to categorise the colonies into various classes should be reviewed as this had led to discrimination. "There should not be any kind of discrimination for people living in the same city as this would lead to uneven growth of residential and commercial space."

He said it would be unreasonable if a person living in an "A" category colony was discriminated against in comparison to a person living in a D or E category colony.

Mr. Chopra said it was wrong to allow only a limited category of professionals to carry out their activities from residential areas and the basements of buildings.

He said it was time to expand the list.
