NEW DELHI: Lack of confidence and coordination in the BJP's approach to the no-confidence motion tabled by it in the Delhi Assembly and its poor floor strategy have brought to the fore serious divisions within the BJP Parliamentary Party, its confused approach on a sensitive issue and unrest among its younger lot. The under-preparedness of the party for the debate on such an important motion has been highlighted during the last two days of the proceedings in the House. The refusal of some of the younger MLAs from the party to take part in the debate protesting against "high-handedness" of the Leader of the Opposition, Jagdish Mukhi, and chief whip Sahib Singh Chauhan is also a pointer to the unrest within the party. The debate on the motion by BJP lacked thrust, direction and punch to corner the Delhi Government. While the motion has been moved against the Sheila Dikshit Government, the target has been the Union Government and its Ministers or Congress president Sonia Gandhi. Mr. Mukhi throughout the debate on Monday concentrated on attacking Union Minister of State for Urban Development Ajay Maken, making little mention of the Delhi Government or its failures. This left the Congress as well as the BJP members in the House wondering if the motion was against the Delhi Government or the UPA Government at the Centre. "Mr. Mukhi seems to be following an agenda by some vested interests. He deliberately targeted Mr. Maken instead of the Chief Minister or her Government. The reasons for this are known to all and need not be elaborated," said a senior BJP MLA. Rumblings within the Delhi BJP have taken a turn for the worse with some of the younger MLAs having decided to toe an independent line on issues of public importance. It is learnt that both Mr. Chauhan and party MLA Vijay Jolly clashed over the issue of raising important matters in the House. The BJP speakers sounded confused about was the real issue - the sealing drive or the failure of the Delhi Government?
