NEW DELHI: The Public Works Department of the Delhi Government has chalked out an ambitious action plan to make world-class roads within the next three years at a cost of Rs. 1,432 crores. Disclosing this, Urban Development and PWD Minister A.K. Walia said the action plan, which would be implemented in a time-bound manner ahead of the Commonwealth Games 2010, includes widening, strengthening, resurfacing and street-lighting of PWD roads, their comprehensive beautification, construction of public utilities and installation of signages. Dr. Walia said 1,343 km lane length of PWD roads would be taken up for strengthening and resurfacing at an estimated cost of Rs. 379 crores. Another 505 km lane length would be upgraded in 2007-08; 484 km in 2008-09; and 352 km in 2009-10. All the important roads would be upgraded with polymer modified bitumen whereas resurfacing would be done with hot-in-place recycling technology. Modern street lighting would be installed on the 200 km length of PWD roads out of a total length of 375 km.
