HYDERABAD: Chief Minister Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy has asked the Ministers to rush to the districts to ensure supply of relief material to the flood-affected families and explain the difficulties faced by the Government in supply of power. At the Cabinet meeting here on Tuesday, the Chief Minister referred to the "untold misery" caused by the latest spell of rain and wanted the Ministers to instil confidence in the flood victims by providing succour on top priority. At the same time, he asked them to tour other areas to explain to the people, the circumstances under which power cut had to be imposed in the villages. Dr. Reddy wanted the Minister to explain to the farmers the paradoxical situation of heavy rain on one hand and the power shortage on the other, besides the need to maintain levels in Srisailam and Nagarjunasagar reservoirs. The Ministers were instructed to explain the electricity shortage to the farmers enjoying free power and seek their cooperation in restricting rabi to irrigated dry crops to close the season by March-end. Dr Reddy named three Ministers and as many senior IAS officers each to the worst-affected Krishna, Guntur and Prakasam districts to oversee the relief and restoration operations--Finance Minister K. Rosaiah and Shashank Goel for Guntur; Rural Development Minister D. Srinivas and R. M Gonela for Prakasam; and Higher Education Minister P. Venkateswara Rao and B. R. Meena for Krishna.
