NEW DELHI
: At a meeting called to review the performance of the major ports on Wednesday, Union Minister for Shipping, Road Transport and Highways T.R. Baalu called for enhanced efforts to increase the efficiency of the ports and asked the authorities to take all steps to bolster productivity.
Various options should be examined to augment the dredging capacity in the country.
Earlier the meeting was informed that the half-yearly traffic handled by the major ports in 2006-07 was approximately 215 MT, recording a 6.13 per cent increase over the corresponding period last year. He directed the officials to expedite the project works.
