VIJAYAWADA: Manipal Hospital, a 350-bed super specialty hospital, was thrown open to the public on Wednesday. Hospital general manager (operations) N. Rajaram said a free medical camp would be conducted for people of Tadepalli, Kunchenapalli and nearby villages. Dr. Rajaram said the Manipal group, which was running 11 hospitals with a total number of 7,000 beds, was the largest hospital management group in Asia.
First of its kind
He said the hospital was a multi-disciplinary super specialty hospital equipped with all medical services under one roof. The hospital was first of its kind in coastal districts with outpatient, casualty, emergency, inpatient, daycare services, OT facilities, ICU, round-the-clock lab, blood bank, pharmacy and dialysis facilities all under one roof. The ICU had 22 beds and provision to add an additional 22 beds, he said. Basic specialty departments such as general medicine, surgery, obstetrics and gynaecology, paediatrics, orthopaedics, dermatology, anaesthesiology, radiology, a blood bank and laboratories were already in place. Specialists required for full-fledged super specialty departments were being recruited and these departments would be fully functional in a matter of two months, he said. Assistant manager (operations) Sudhakar Kantipudi said accident cases could be brought to the hospital quickly as it was located on the national highway.
