Development of north Karnataka districts is high on State Government's agenda, says Darshanapur



CELEBRATIONS BEGIN: Agricultural Marketing Minister Sharanabasappa Darshanapur offering floral tributes to the portrait of goddess Bhuvaneshwari in Gulbarga on Wednesday.

GULBARGA: Agricultural Marketing Minister Sharanabasappa Darshanapur on Wednesday reiterated the State Government's commitment to implement the recommendations of the High Power Committee for Redressal of Regional Imbalances headed by D.M. Nanjundappa.

After inaugurating the Rajyotsava Day celebrations of the formation of the State and unfurling of the National and Kannada flags at the Nagreshwar School Ground, Mr. Darshanapur, who is also the District in-charge Minister, declared that development of north Karnataka districts was on top of the agenda of the State Government.

Holding the Assembly session in Belgaum recently was the first step. Every year at least one sitting of the Assembly session would be held in Belgaum, he said.

The State Government had decided to establish 450 power transmission stations of different capacities in the State this year to improve the power distribution network.

He said the State Government had decided to develop 1,000 villages in the State at a cost of Rs. 1,000 crore this year. A majority of these villages would be from North Karnataka districts.

Awards conferred

Earlier, the Minister conferred the "Best Civil Service" awards to six gazetted and non-gazetted officers in the districts in recognition of their services.

They included Deputy Director of the Information Department Basavaraj Para; Headquarters Assistant to Deputy Commissioner Ravikiran Vanti; Range Forest Officer Ghouse Pasha; Sampath Kumar of the Mines and Geology Department; Basavaraj Yakkanchi, Chief Officer of the Chitapur Town Municipal Council; and Umakant, Personnel Assistant to the Deputy Commissioner.

Deputy Commissioner Pankajkumar Pandey welcomed the gathering. Animal Husbandry Minister Revu Naik, Rajya Sabha Member K.B. Shanappa, former MP B.G. Jawali, BJP MLC Shashil G. Namoshi, and Congress MLC Amatappa Kandakur were among those present.

Minister for Sports and Youth Services and district in-charge Hanumanthappa Alkod said the Government has given special attention to the overall development of the district. He was speaking after unfurling the National Flag at the District Stadium to mark Rajyotsava Day celebrations on Wednesday.

He said the Government had been implementing several schemes for the development of border villages. He said the Government was thinking of reserving special funds for early implementation of the Munirabad-Mahabubnagar railway line. The Government had decided to establish an agricultural university in Raichur.

Deputy Commissioner Tushar Girinath, Additional Superintendent of Police V.B. Kithale, Raichur MLA A. Papa Reddy, Raichur City Municipal Council president M. Eranna, Chief Executive Officer of Raichur Zilla Panchayat Manjunath Prasad, and ZP president Roopa Niranjan Bale were present.
