State committed to ryots' welfare: Dharmana

  • Wastage of water should be avoided: Minister
  • Call for people's involvement in Indiramma programme

SRIKAKULAM: Minister for Revenue and Relief Dharmana Prasada Rao has said that the officials concerned have been asked to prepare a plan to provide protection walls to the rivers Vamsadhara and Nagavali. The proposal will be included in the report on other irrigation proposals sent to the Union Government for financial assistance. Works, which will ensure permanent protection to lands, will commence as and when a green signal is received, according to the Minister.

Addressing a meeting after inaugurating the Andhra Pradesh Formation Day celebrations at Dr. Ambdkar Stadium here on Wednesday, Mr. Prasada Raso said the recent floods to the Vamsadhara and Nagavali and the resultant hardship spurred the government to initiate permanent measures to protect the interests of farmers for whose welfare the Government was committed to. Water, measuring several lakh cusecs, had gone waste into the river. This should be avoided, the Minister observed.

    Welfare measures

Giving details of various measures for the welfare of farmers and weaker sections in society, the Minister referred to the Indiramma programme through which villages were proposed to be developed into models ones and asserted that no other State had ever tried to implement such a scheme.
