Dhaka: Key political parties mostly welcomed on Wednesday a caretaker administration picked by the President to guide Bangladesh through the coming national elections and defuse a crisis that has left at least 27 dead in factional riots. The 10 advisers were appointed by acting leader President Iajuddin Ahmed on Tuesday. ``We believe they are neutral and will be able to conduct a free and fair election,'' Abdul Mannan Bhuiyan, secretary-general of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party that held power until the weekend, told a news conference in Dhaka. ``We will wait a few days to see how much neutrally they behave,'' said Mr. Abdul Jalil, general secretary of rival Awami League. In their first meeting with the interim leader on Wednesday, the team of advisers pledged to do all they could to ensure impartial elections. AP
