Chamber plea to Chief Minister

Staff Reporter

KOCHI: The Indian Chamber of Commerce and Industry has sent a fax message to the Chief Minister seeking his intervention to end the three-day-old indefinite strike by bus and lorry owners in the State.

The strike has brought the movement of items like rubber and tea, essential commodities and industrial raw materials to a standstill, said the message. As there is no transport available, suppliers are unable to meet their commitments.

The strike has also affected the Cochin Tea Auction Centre.

The Chamber points out that one of the areas that will be seriously hit by the strike is the construction industry.

The strike is also forcing agents to divert cargo to ports neighbouring Kochi. The strike, if allowed to continue, will land the business community as well as the agriculture sector in severe financial strains, the Chamber adds.
