Corrections and clarifications

The sentence in "Taking no chances" (Chennai city, November 1, 2006, page 2) was: "As soon as such a packet was sighted on a chair, a security personnel brought the necessary equipment and had it thoroughly checked and removed." As a reader pointed out, it was clarified in "Corrections and Clarifications" (October 24, 2006) that "personnel" is a plural noun. It is an error as the text refers to one person.

The Kerala High Court has declared void the election of P.C. Thomas to the Lok Sabha. The election was in May 2004 and the date was missing in the published report ("P.C. Thomas's election set aside", November 1, 2006). This and the reference to his being a Minister in the NDA Government had a reader wondering which election was set aside.

The caption of the standalone picture "On a mission" ("Newscape" page, October 30, 2006) was: "For AIDS awareness: Miss Universe 2006 Puerto Rican Zuleyka Rivera Mendoza with other beauties in front of the India Gate in New Delhi on Sunday." A reader points out that the arch seen in the picture is not the India Gate, but the canopy which sheltered the statue of King George V till recent times.

A French national from Kochi says: "On October 24, 2006, you had published the article `France's shifting political landscape' (Editorial). At the end it was stated that there could be a return to the 1992 scenario that saw a second round battle between the Right and the Extreme Right. The date should have been `2002'."
