CHENNAI: A grade separator will be built at the Tambaram-Velachery Road and Pallavaram-Thoraippakkam Radial Road junction soon, Highways Minister M.P. Saminathan said on Wednesday. The project was estimated to cost Rs.12 crore. A flyover at the junction has been a long pending demand as more people have started using the wide stretch to reach the IT corridor. The junction where the grade separator is to come up is prone to accidents. Also, the half-complete culvert on the radial road has turned a death trap for motorists and regular users, say residents.
Relief work reviewed
The Minister, along with Chennai Mayor M. Subramanian and Corporation Commissioner M.P. Vijayakumar, reviewed efforts taken to drain floodwater from the 100-feet road. "The PWD, Highways Department and the Chennai Corporation will work together to ensure that all water is drained out of the affected areas soon," he said. He said two culverts would be built at the Velachery-Medavakkam road at a cost of Rs.2 crore each. Blockages in 13 culverts on the Pallavaram-Thoraippakkam Radial Road would be removed. The Highways department proposed to build four additional culverts on the radial road. Mr. Subramanian, who earlier visited areas near the Velachery MRTS Railway Station, said sand piled up for construction of tracks would be cleared.
