DSS seeks removal of Union Minister

Staff Reporter

Bangalore: Karnataka Dalit Sangharsh Samiti convener Mavalli Shankar has demanded that Union Minister for Law and Justice H.R. Bharadwaj be dropped from the Union Cabinet, holding his Ministry responsible for not properly apprising the Supreme Court on the reservation issue.

This had resulted in the court ruling that the `creamy layer' among the Scheduled Castes and the Scheduled Tribes should not get the benefit of reservation.

Mr. Shankar told presspersons here on Tuesday that these sections could not utilise the full complement of reservation in employment due to lack of eligible candidates.

Therefore, it was wrong to remove the creamy layer from the reservation category, he said.

He alleged that the judiciary was depriving Dalits of their constitutional rights and privileges.
