Rajeevan for Tel Aviv poetry festival

Poet Thachom Poyil Rajeevan is to participate in a four-day Sha'ar International Poetry Festival (SIPF), slated to begin in Tel Aviv, Israel, on Thursday.

Rajeevan, Public Relations Officer of the Calicut University, is also the only poet from India to figure in the list of international guests from various parts of the globe to attend the festival. He left for Israel on Tuesday.

"I am happy to associate with the international festival which is mainly intended for developing a dialogue between the Arabic and Hebrew poets. Every year a few poets from other countries are invited as guests. This year I was selected from India," he said.

"This year the festival is being hosted for a select group of prominent poets across a range of traditions. Our cross-art commissioning, Hebrew-Arabic poetic dialogue, and invitations to promising young poets are all part of our celebration of poetry," festival director and poet Amir Or said.

International guests

Besides Rajeevan the international guests this year are Zoran Anchevski (Republic of Macedonia), Antonella Anedda (Italy), Uwe Kolbe (Germany), Yuria Kumagai (Japan), Karine Martel (France), Odia Ofeimun (Nigeria), Piotr Somer (Poland), Haris Vlavianos (Greece) and Yang Lien (China/ the U.K.).

The Hebrew and Arabic poets from Israel are Hanna Abu-Hanna, Taha Muhamad Ali, Ory Bernstein, Yael Globerman, Hedva Harekhavi, Amira Hess, Nidaa Khouri, Admiel Kosman, Hava Pinchas-Cohen, Samikh al-Qassem, Tuvia Rübner, Rami Saari, Lyor Shternberg, Aryeh Sivan and Nourit Zarhi.

Rajeevan has participated in the Struga Poetry Festival in Macedonia, Warsaw Poetry Festival in Poland and the International Poetry Festival at Zagreb in Croatia.
