MADURAI : The 150-year Department of Posts continued to dominate in mail and courier services and 60 per cent of its revenue came from the mail service, said Radhika Doraisamy, Chief Postmaster-General of Tamil Nadu Circle. She was addressing a `business meet' organised by the Department of Posts here on Wednesday. The official said that the department was slowly undergoing changes to sell itself in the competitive market. She handed over a cheque for Rs.50,000 to Setupati Higher Secondary School for its winning participation in the All India Collage Competition held during 2005. A five-member student team received cheques for Rs.2000 each. The theme of the competition was `My vision of India Post.' The first prize was shared by Asha Modern School, Uttar Pradesh. Earlier, the Director of Postal Services, K. Balasubramanian, gave a brief presentation of all the 10 services including new ones like Logistics Post and e-post services. Logistics post service was officially launched on Wednesday between Madurai and Nagercoil. Mr. Balasubramanian said that with the objective of being more relevant to the people the department also offered the following services: despatch of Palani `panchamirtham' and `kodi theertham' for Rs.100 each through post and sale of books for competitive examinations at 15 per cent discount.
