Fatal fall

NIZAMABAD: A 45-year-old man, Syed Gouse, had a fatal fall from a tamarind tree in his native village Kalyani under Yellareddy police station limits on Wednesday morning, according to information reaching here.

He fell down as he left the branch on which he was sitting when a herd of monkeys menacingly advanced towards him. He fell down and hit a sharp edged stone. He died instantaneously, the reports said.— Staff Reporter

Legal literacy camp

ADILABAD: The District Legal Services Authority (LSA) on Wednesday conducted a legal literacy camp for members of the Tractors and Workers Association. LSA secretary R. Pundareekakshudu spoke on laws related to HIV and AIDS and labour laws. Advocate M. Ramana Reddy elaborated on Motor Vehicle Act and Insurance laws while Vendi Hanmanth Rao talked about land acquisition laws.— Staff Reporter

Over 50 students taken ill

MAHABUBNAGAR: More than 50 inmates of the Social Welfare Hostel for Boys at Vaspula village, Midjil mandal in the district, were hospitalised at Jadcherla following complaints of vomit and stomach pain on Wednesday.

According to official sources, the boys had a stomach pain and vomited after taking `khichdi' for breakfast. They were rushed to the Midjil Primary Health Centre and shifted to the Jadcherla Hospital. Collector V. Usha Rani rushed to the village and arranged for their treatment. — Correspondent

Found dead

NALGONDA: A third year student of an Engineering college in Miryalguda town, Srinivas, was found dead at railway track near the railway station under mysterious circumstances.

An injury on his head was found and the reasons for his death are not yet known.Srinivas reportedly hailed from Amrabad in Mahabubnagar district. - Staff Reporter

TIRUPATI : Vice-Chancellor of Sri Venkateswara University S.Jayarama Reddy will be part of the official team that is scheduled to visit Carnegie Mellon University and other centres of higher learning in the USA from November 7.-Staff Reporter

Bench dismisses plea

HYDERABAD : The writ petition filed seeking annulling of election of Srinivasa Reddy, MLA, Kovur, Nellore district was dismissed by a Division Bench on Wednesday. The Bench was dealing with a writ petition filed local Mandal Parishad vice president. The petitioner alleged that though there is history of criminal record, Srinivasa Reddy did not disclose all these facts at the time of filing the nomination. -Legal Correspondent

Seer opens post office branch

ANANTAPUR: Ganapathi Sachidananda Swamy of Mysore Datta Peetham inaugurated a branch post office at Bommeparthi village of Rapthadu mandal in the district on Wednesday. The village was renamed recently as Jayalakshmipuram after the seer's mother. The seer is a native of the village.

Lack of post office in the village was delaying the communication to the villagers. The problem would be solved now with the inauguration of the post office. -Staff Reporter

Land disputes hearing every Monday

MADANAPALLE: Sub-Collector, Madanapalle A. Babu in a press meet said that complaints pertaining to land disputes, will be taken up every Monday by the Revenue Department. In Madanapalle division land conferences will be conducted on November 5, 6 and 7. -Staff Reporter

T. N. Raghunatha Reddy condoled

MADANAPALLE: Andhra Hockey Association founder president and industrialist T.N.Raghunatha Reddy passed away on October 31. Trilokekar Hockey Gold Cup Tournament Association, B.T.College under the presidentship of J.Ravindra Varma and members of the committee mourned Mr. Reddy's death.-Staff Reporter

Two students drowned in a canal

NALGONDA: Two Class X students -- Jayasimha (14) and Rahul Rai (15) -- were drowned in Vajeerabad major canal near Chillapuram in Miryalaguda mandal on Wednesday. According to the police sources, they went to the canal for swimming and got drowned. Jayasimha's body was fished out and efforts were on to trace Rahul's body. - Staff Reporter

Veteran ML party leader passes away

KHAMMAM: Veteran Communist leader and State committee member of the CPI (ML- New Democracy), Gaddam Vekatramaiah, 92, passed away here on Wednesday. He is survived by wife two daughters and two sons. Known to the tribals as Doranna, he is one of the top leaders of the party. He will be cremated in his village near Bayyaram on Thursday. - Staff Reporter

BRAOU convocation on January 18

HYDERABAD: The 15th Convocation of B.R. Ambedkar Open University (BRAOU) would be held on January 18, 2007 at the University campus. Candidates who have been declared eligible for the award of degrees between October 2005 and May 2006 are alone eligible to apply for the convocation in the prescribed application form with a demand draft of Rs. 100. Idols recovered

KHAMMAM: Three of the four festive idols of Rama, Sita, Lakshmana and Anjaneya which were allegedly stolen from the famous Sriramgiri temple in Bhadrachalam division were recovered on Wednesday. Some silver ornaments, including the crowns, were also taken away. The police could recover all idols except for the idol of Lakshmana. - Staff Reporter

More TRS rebels will come out: TJR

Sangareddy: Dissident TRS legislator T. Jayaprakash Reddy said many disgruntled legislators from the party are likely to rebel protesting against the feudal attitude of the party president K. Chandrasekhar Rao. Speaking to reporters here, he claimed that KCR has lost touch with the voters and was unaware of the real needs of the people. He said that TRS legislators are afraid of visiting their constituencies, as they have failed fulfil poll promises. - Staff Reporter

AIDWA to take out rallies in State

HYDERABAD: The State committee of All-India Democratic Women's Association (AIDWA) will organise four rallies (`jathas') from November 7 to 13 calling for taking forward the social reforms process. The jathas after touching all districts will converge here on November 13 where a demonstration and a public meeting will be organised, K. Swaroopa Rani, secretary, said in a statement.

Date for scholarships extended

HYDERABAD: Minister for Minorities Welfare Mohd. Fareeduddin has announced extending the last date for submission of applications for scholarships to minority students up to November 15, following representations made by parents and students, an official release said on Wednesday. - Special Correspondent
