Minister for steps to impart education to the poor

HYDERABAD: Union Minister of State for Human Resources Development D. Purandareswari has called for new strategies to impart education to the disadvantaged, marginalised and poorer sections of the society.

Stating that education was critical for development of the nation, Ms. Purandareswari, who inaugurated a three-day annual meeting of Directors of Jan Shikshan Sansthans (JSS) here on Wednesday, said that there were several groups for whom education was a distant dream. School Education Minister N. Rajyalakshmi also spoke. Director General of National Literacy Mission Vandana K. Jena said that there were still 30 crore people who were illiterate. She said people could earn their livelihood only if they were literate.
