CHANDIGARH: Haryana Governor A.R. Kidwai on Wednesday called upon the teaching community to groom children who are able to shoulder the responsibilities of the future needs of the world effectively. Presiding over the State Teachers' Awards Function-2006 at Raj Bhavan here, Dr. Kidwai honoured 39 teachers for their meritorious services in education. Stating that the teachers have a very important role in the progress and prosperity of the nation, he asserted that during the last one-and-a-half years there had been a major transformation in the Haryana Education Department. Its budget had been enhanced by 50 per cent showing the concern of the Government in imparting quality education to the children. The guest teacher programme had also proved very successful. Congratulating the people on Haryana Day, he said Haryana at present had the highest per capita income in the country. He called upon teachers to make Haryana the No. One State in the country by infusing scientific temper among the children so that they could fulfil the needs of the changed global industrial scenario. He also advised the parents to invest in imparting quality education to their children as they are their best asset. Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda announced that the teachers who have won State level Teachers' Award would be given a station of their choice and would not be transferred for five years. He said that his regime had taken several concrete steps to provide qualitative education in the State. Reiterating that 12,000 teachers would be recruited in the State shortly and out of these 33 per cent posts would be reserved for women, he said that all the vacancies would be filled up on the basis of merit. He disclosed that Prime Minister Manmohan Singh had been requested to inaugurate the Edusat system set up at Panchkula. Education Minister Phool Chand Mullana said that an agreement had been signed with Chitkara Institute to impart education to the students so that they could excel in AIEEE and IIT examinations. The Edusat system would be extended to primary level in future and the science faculty would be strengthened, he added. Each of the 39 teachers were given a cash prize of Rs.11,000, a silver medal, a shawl, a certificate, two increments for five years, extension in services for two years and the choice posting for five years in any Government Institution.
