THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Chief Minister V. S. Achuthanandan has said the State Government is planning a series of development initiatives as part of the golden jubilee of State formation. Presiding over the inauguration of the golden jubilee celebrations of State formation at a function here on Wednesday, he announced that work on a Rs.225-crore project for development of national waterways in Kerala would begin in a month's time. The State Government was also undertaking the development of the Thiruvananthapuram Central railway station at a cost of Rs.50 crore and the Kochuveli station at a cost of Rs.40 crore. The Government had also decided to conduct a feasibility study for the proposed suburban railway projects for Thiruvananthapuram, Kochi and Kozhikode and go ahead with the proposal for the Kochi metro railway project, he said. Governor R. L. Bhatia, Union Defence Minister A. K. Antony, Union Minister for Overseas Indian Affairs Vayalar Ravi, Leader of the Opposition Oommen Chandy, Speaker K. Radhakrishnan and Education and Culture Minister M. A. Baby also spoke.
