Kochi: A writ petition seeking to declare illegal the ongoing strike by bus and lorry operators in the state was filed before the Kerala High Court on Wednesday. The petition was filed by K.U. Paul from Ernakulam. He also sought a direction to the Government to cancel the permits given to operators under the provisions of the Motor Vehicles Act.
They were given permits on the condition that they would operate their vehicles without any break.
Trial prisoners
The Government on Wednesday informed a Division Bench that 109 under-trial prisoners had served jail term more than the sentence that would have been awarded to them if they were found guilty.
The government pleader told the Bench that the Government was willing to release them if the court gave permission for it.
