Students, officials join celebrations with zeal

Tableaux on a variety of topics taken out

BELLARY: The portrait of goddess Bhuvaneshwari was taken out in a colourful procession on the main streets of the city in Bellary city and the National Flag was hoisted on Wednesday to celebrate the Rajyotsava Day.

Deputy Commissioner Arvind Srivastav unfurled the Tricolour in the absence of Home Minister M.P. Prakash, who is also the district in-charge.

Hundreds of the children from various schools in the city, members of pro-Kannada organisations and associations, officials of several departments took part in the procession with zeal and enthusiasm.

Traditional band, tasharam dhol, veeragase performers were among other folk artistes to lead the procession. There were about a dozen tableaux on various themes including child labour in mining, cleanliness and sanitation, environment and ecology and lotus mahal, which added colour to the procession.

Honoured

Veeresh and Parvatgowda Patil of Agricultural Department and Bukkasagar Gram Panchayat secretary Thimmappa, who were among the six persons conferred with the Civil Service Award for the current year, were honoured on the occasion. The other awardees are Prakash Reddy, Narasimhamurthy and Sunita.

G. Karunakar Reddy, MP; Janardhan Reddy, MLC; Durgamma and K.A. Ramalingappa, president and vice-president of zilla panchayat; C.M. Shirol, CEO; Amrit Paul, Superintendent of Police; D.C. Rajappa, Additional Superintendent of Police, were present.

Cultural programmes were also held at the Dr. Joladarashi Doddanagowda Rangamandir here in which children from various schools gave their performance.

Minister for Labour and Waqf and district in-charge Iqbal Ansari, who hoisted the National Flag at the Government College ground to mark the Rajyotsava Day celebrations, said that the Government was committed to the overall development of the district.

He said the Government released Rs. 6 crore to the district administration to handle drought in the district.

Basawaraj Hitnal, Koppal MLA, who spoke on the occasion, said the Government should give attention to the speedy development of this new district. It should also bring pressure on the Union Government for early amendment to Article 371 of the Constitution. Otherwise, the people in this region would continue to observe black day, he said.

Deputy Commissioner Naveenraj Singh and Superintendent of Police Padmanayana were present.
