Coimbatore: The National Informatics Centre (NIC) signed an agreement with Sri Krishna College of Engineering and Technology here recently, for its Collabcad software. The five-year agreement will enable students of the college to get trained in the use of the software, do projects using it and also train private users of the software and offer consultancy. According to a representative of the NIC, who made a presentation on Collabcad to members of the Southern India Engineering Manufacturers Association here on Friday, Collabcad is a CAD/CAM software used in industries. The first version of the software was released in 2001 and the NIC has entered into tie-ups with 15 educational institutions in the country for promotion of the package. It is also promoting awareness among industries about it. The NIC also has an agreement with the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Bombay, to produce specialised software solutions in this package. The National Informatics Centre plans to offer integrated solution by topping the Collabcad with more solutions for industries.
