KANNUR: Difficulties of the public intensified as the State-wide indefinite strike by bus operators entered the third day on Wednesday. The strike by lorry and tanker operators continued to affect transportation of goods and supplies. The district started experiencing shortage of petrol and diesel as some of the petrol pumps here ran short of stock. Though there was no shortage in the supply of vegetables and grocery items as of now, the district is likely to face shortage of essential items if the strike continued in the coming days. The strike also affected trade and business here as busy streets were deserted. The sections hardest hit by the strike were students and office-goers. They had no option but to undergo the agony of travelling in over-crowded jeeps and vans conducting parallel services. Parallel operators were reportedly charging two times the normal fare.
KSRTC service
More KSRTC buses are expected to operate schedules to different parts of the district from Thursday. The KSRTC Kannur depot is operating all the existing schedules, mostly in Kannur-Iritty, Kannur-Koothuparamba and Kannur Thalassery routes.
