Rain wreaks havoc yet again

  • Mayor visits affected areas and directs officials to take remedial steps
  • The district receives an average of 59.9 mm rainfall since Tuesday night

    KARIMNAGAR: Heavy rain followed by flash floods wreaked havoc in Karimnagar town on Wednesday with several low-lying areas inundated in floodwaters.

    Normal life was paralysed in the town and people were forced to remain indoors because of the rains and floods. Low-lying areas near Shiva temple in Baghatnagar, Indiranagar, Ganeshnagar, Jyothinagar, Mankammathota were inundated.

    An electric transformer was washed away in the floodwaters at Ganeshnagar area causing power disruption in some localities in the area.

    Even as the town was limping back to normalcy after the recent floods, fresh rain and floods disrupted life of people yet again, especially those living in the low-lying areas. Roads and drains were washed away.

    Karimnagar Mayor D. Shankar, along with the municipal staff, visited some of the affected colonies and instructed authorities to take measures for the flushing out of the floodwaters.

    The rain dampened the AP Formation Day celebrations at the Police Parade Grounds. Minister for Sports M. Satyanarayana Rao hoisted the tri-colour and delivered speech at the Collectorate auditorium before media persons.

    Meanwhile, Collector M.V. Satyanarayana instructed the revenue officials to be on high alert.He asked them to closely monitor the flood situation in all irrigation tanks and alert the district headquarters. He also directed them to take all measures for shifting people from the low-lying areas.
