Special Correspondent

CHENNAI: The Madras High Court has granted anticipatory bail to former AIADMK Minister, B. Valarmathi, in connection with a case registered against her during the civic polls here.

Justice M. Thanikachalam directed her to surrender before the jurisdictional court within 15 days.

In the event of her arrest or surrender in connection with the case, she shall be released on her furnishing a personal bond for Rs.10,000 besides two securities for a like sum each to the satisfaction of the II Judicial Magistrate, Poonamallee.

Ms. Valarmathi shall appear before the police investigating the case at 10 a.m. daily for 15 days, the judge said.

`Conspired to capture booths'

According to the prosecution, Ms. Valarmathi conspired to capture booths and cause disturbance during the elections. The police relied on the confessional statement of a van driver, who was arrested with deadly weapons during a vehicle check near the Kathipara junction here.

Denying the allegation, the former Minister said it was a politically motivated case.
