Raid on sub-registrar's office

Tambaram : Officials of the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption raided the premises of Sub-Registrar's office at Tambaram on Wednesday.

A team of about 10 officers from the DVAC swooped down on the premises of the Sub-Registrar's office, functioning from cramped rooms on the second floor of a commercial complex on Mudichur Road, around 5 p.m. They closed the main doors and conducted a thorough search of the office premises, quizzed staff and other visitors present.

They were seen counting cash and bundling them. At 8.15 p.m., they left the premises and got into a waiting police vehicle and left. The officials said they had come there following receipt of a specific complaint about malpractices. They did not respond to reporters' queries on whether they had made any recoveries or arrested any staff and asked them (reporters) to contact officials at their headquarters.

Officials at the Sub-Registrar's office said the DVAC personnel had come to check transactions and other accounts maintained by them. They added the entries made in the office and the cash kept there tallied. Further, none of the staff were taken up for enquiry nor was any cash taken away by the policemen, they said.
