NEW DELHI : Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit on Wednesday declared that she was ready to resign if it helped resolve the problem created by the sealing and demolition drive in the Capital. She, however, said the previous National Democratic Government was responsible for the present mess. It had given an undertaking in the Supreme Court that action would be taken against all violations in the Master Plan for Delhi and against unauthorised constructions. ``If it helps to resolve the matter and put an end to the current phase of sealing and demolitions, I am ready to resign,'' Ms. Dikshit said while moving a resolution under Rule 90 in the Delhi Assembly, seeking an end to the sealing exercise and expediting the new Master Plan for Delhi 2021. The Delhi Government had little to do with what was happening here. It was for the Union Government and the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) to evolve an action plan. The Union Urban Development Ministry, the Supreme Court and MCD had to deal with the problem.
Relief assured
Ms. Dikshit said the Government would do everything possible within the Constitution to provide relief to traders. After she moved the resolution, Nationalist Congress Party MLA Ramvir Singh Bidhuri moved an amendment seeking incorporation of the words ``that the Delhi Laws (Special Provisions) Act 2006 should be included in Schedule IX of the Constitution by amending Article 31B of the Constitution in order to provide relief to the traders and people of Delhi.''
Noisy scenes
Earlier, the Assembly witnessed noisy scenes during the debate on the no-confidence motion, resulting in the expulsion of all BJP members for three days. The resolution for expulsion was moved by Education Minister Arvinder Singh Lovely and passed by a majority vote.
