MANGALORE: Joint Committee of Dakshina Kannada District Labour Organisations will hold a district-level convention at the Town Hall here on November 8.

A press release from B. Madhava, convener of the committee, here on Tuesday said the convention would discuss, among other issues, rise in prices of essential commodities and a cut in the quota of items distributed through the public distribution system.

The decision was taken at a national-level meeting of labourers at New Delhi on July 25. The national convention had highlighted 16 major issues pertaining to the labour class, he said. Labour organisations such as CITU, AITUC, HMS, AIBEA and AIIEA would participate. The convention would also draw up an action plan for the proposed general strike on December 14, he added.

The Dakshina Kannada District Building and Construction Workers' Association, as per a call given by Construction Workers Federation of India, will hold a protest demonstration in front of the office of the Deputy Commissioner here on November 6 as part of Labourers Demand Day. The workers will take out a procession to the office of the Deputy Commissioner on the occasion.

The Mangalore City Committee of Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI) has urged the Deputy Commissioner to set right anomalies in the distribution of domestic LPG cylinders in the city.

A DYFI press release here stated that most LPG agencies across the city were flouting rules in this regard, resulting in delay in supply of cylinders.
